I really can't believe the level of half-baked thinking in this thread.
If I had to reduce this thread to dialog here's what it would sound like.
"Mine does."
"Mine does too - and better"
"No it doesn't. Mine does everything better."
"How can you say that, you don't even know what I need mine to do??!!"
"I don't need to, I KNOW mine must be better"
"Why would you think that?"
"Cuz it is"
"Well, it's stupid to say that if you haven't even tried the other way."
"Well, if I did that, I'd put at risk my current self-satisfied feeling
that MY way is smarter than the other way.
You'll note that I've carefully avoided linking either "mine" to any OS
becuase it's clearly true either way.
And clearly schoolyard silly either way.
Apple is in virtually no Jeopardy since they have excellent talent, fine
and popular products and a solid balance sheet flush with cash.
MS is going nowhere because they have many of the most widely used and
popular product lines on the planet.
But BOTH companies have things they do well and things they do poorly.
With both in the game, everyone has choices.
To the extent they can adapt and bring to market solutions people buy -
in sufficient quantities to keep their balance sheets strong, they will
thrive.
My simple prediction: In another 10 years, both companies will still be
going strong.
Note that anyone posting that opinion 10 years ago would have been
precisely right.
And ANYONE saying "my way is so much BETTER that YOUR WAY will surely
dissappear any time now" would have been clearly wrong.
Just like now.
