If you have FCP you no doubt have a sound card in the computer. The sound
card typically has a microphone input. FCP has a module for recording
audio. (I'm not an FCP driver. I just look over the shoulder of those who
do know how to run it, make comments, slow down their work, and probably
degrade their artistry.)

However, a better way might be to purchase either a Firewire or USB audio
interface, which has a microphone preamp built in and a way to get the audio
into the computer. You record on hard disk using audio recording software.
The result is an audio file, typically in either WAV or AIFF format. You
can put that file on the time line just like a video Quicktime or AVI file.
Choosing to use an outboard audio interface depends on the quality of your
sound card. Most are not so good.

Pass the turnips.
