Hey Bob,

Sorry can't help about Elements since I haven't used it (but we do have
two different machines running PPro), but assuming from what I can see
on the Adobe web site, it appears Elements will do just about
everything a basic editor would need, a very stripped down verison of
Premiere. Probably you're looking at more (as is more tracks, more FX,
more everything), fine tuning (as in ability to fine tune more aspects
of your video and audio), and more professional (as in pro features a
straightforward editor might not need) with Pro over Elements.

There are free 30-day download trails of each on Adobe's site so maybe
try out Elements and see what you've got. I think if you buy it and
decide later that you need more, they have an Elements to Premiere
upgrade available.

If you do decide to use PPro 2.0, make sure you have Windows XP Service
Pack 2 on your computer. We keep our NLEs disconnected from the
internet and after buying the 2.0 upgrade and trying to install it
(obviously not closely paying attention to the computer specs when I
bought it), had to download the Service Pack first.

And, by the way, don't get all wrapped up in what you hear people say
about FCP. Avid is still far, far, far and away the king of the NLEs,
both in sales and stature. But, as always, it's the human editor that
makes the difference, not the platform or software.
