Why didn't Laserdisc take over from VHS then?
There was a good article on the Video Business website, saying HD has
come too soon, and there's a real fear that most punters will just
stick with DVD, leaving HD a ghetto for spods - and there's just not
enough money in that - the business wants the people in the street.

A DVD recorder is...but you're the happy exception not caring, I'd
imagine. Especially if a backwards compatible alternative is available,
and cheaper.

Most of us aren't in any camp, much as the companies seem to want us to
be. I've got a Walkman, so am I therefore be in Sony's camp? Should I
beat up anyone I see with an I-Pod?
