Just for the record, the audio file linked to from The Register
article, although having a .mp3 extension, isn't actually MPEG Layer 3
encoded.
It's actually an MPEG-1 Layer 2 file and should really have a .mp2
extension.
I think that the fundamental is higher than 15 kHz though; perhaps
more in the neighborhood of 16 kHz, but I don't have the time for a
more thorough analysis.
Like Steve, I too was able to hear it using just my usual setup of JBL
monitors driven by a Crown amp, let along through electrostatic
headphones, and I'm not exactly a spring chicken any longer. :)
