Movie production walkies in the USA are all mostly still VHF--much
better propagation. UHF is a band, not a frequency, and that band is
very overcrowded as it is, and about to become much more so as Congress
sells off all the remaining spectrum between digital TV stations. Major
users of UHF wireless mics are all in an early panic mode about the
coming interference from GSM phones etc, to the point that the latest
cutting edge wireless mic transmitters are also flash recorders so that
the audio can be retrieveed even if there is RF interference. A
prototype Bluetooth wireless mic has been shown, perhaps available this
year. There is a possiblity the use of the UHF band by all unlicensed
devices will be very curtailed in the next few years unless they adopt
a frequency hopping, "listen before talk" methodology.
