Sorry David-- not sure what you are replying to here. My point is
generally a Goldwater Republican vs. Bush/Reagan Republican argument.
Goldwater would have been absolutely appalled at the governmend handouts
and tax concessions going out today. And I sometimes find that I'm not
all that anti-conservative when we're talking about real "hand-outs". I
believe real conservatives would also be freaked out by the
enfringements of civil liberties enacted by this government.
David, surely you don't believe the Republicans ever intended the
minimum wage bill to pass, and that it was not simple a despicable
political ploy (of which, I'll agree, the Democrats have pulled their
share)?
And actually, in a draft of my previous message, I noted that, in fact,
most uneducated, working class or poorer people are conservative, and
that there are fair number of wealthy liberals. I thought the rich,
effete, educated, eastern liberal was an ingrained cliche too, in
political discourse...?
But anyway, I know I'm beyond where I should have dropped the
discussion, so I will.... feel free to have the last post!
