A similar problem ocurred with my connection last week. For a
couple of days WinMx would not connect as secondary, or if
connected, had zero search results. As primary, it worked
well, but contrary to other advice posted to always "connect as
a primary" my WinMx machine is too slow to take on that role.
The sluggish performance would be unfair to anyone connecting
to my machine as a secondary.
As a responce to a failed connection, my first suspicion is that
my ISP is actively blocking peer-to-peer connctions, and as such I
change the port assignments in WinMx and in my router. However,
it did not work for the problem last week. The problem just "went
away", which is frustrating for the purposes of troubleshooting.
If you're still experiencing a connection failure, try changing ports.
There is a list of ports at this link:
http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers
WinMx is running well here on: TCP 288 / UDP 290
I regret this information is not conclusive, but it gives you
something to try. Let us know if it worked.
