The fan may makes some noise when it first comes on because it is cold
and the bearings rattle a bit. But it should be quiet after a few
minutes of operation.
It sounds like you have a defective fan. Send it back because it's
only going to get worse with time. It may be cheaper and more
effective to open the unit and replace the fan with a good quality one
from a reputable computer parts vendor. I like the Panasonic "Panaflo"
fans from Directron.com, but they may not be available in the smaller
sizes.
