Reading between the lines of several reviews, this business of the multiple
layers of encryption required by the MPAA etc. seems to be easier to crack
than it 'should be'. So did the geeks at MS make it that way?
Listening the podcast by Steve Gibson and hearing about access denial
encryption trees (?) and the bit about them being able to remotely shut down
your player if you try to hack it (even if it's not net connected - they do
it by code in any newer DVD you try to play!) i.e. you hack it and your
player is dead - forever!
After all that you'd think it was impossible to hack. But no, HDDVD has
already been hacked :-)
So yes - don't buy any commercial player yet - get a PC and the hacking
software.
Oh and BlueRays' dead - They just told the Porn industry that none of the
pressing plants are allowed to press porn :-) What a bunch of idiots! That's
what killed Betamax!
So the porn industry are now using HDDVD. Furthermore they have just
announced a 51GB HDDVD disk so the size advantage of Blueray is no more.
