The format was called Laser Disc.

I have said all along that the new formats were for those of us that
are willing to pay for quality, just like in the days of Laser Disc.

>DVD was adopted quickly because everyone could see an improvement

Nope. It actually had a slower start than they wished for. Once it
took off, however, it was far more than they had ever forecasted.

Main feature: convenience of size, and it outdid Laser Disc on
price and quality. My LD library is fucking heavy. 100 discs in a box
is not an easy tote. 100 DVDs in a box are no problem though.

Like? My FMJ is VERY grainy, but an order of magnitude better than
the DVD version. I use it as my worst case disc so far.

Why they cannot find a decent print to master from, I'll never know.
I am sort of pissed that they just dumped a redux of the DVD master on
us. That was my worst "fear" at the beginning... that they would not
actually make NEW HD masters at the telecine level.

I understand that most current telecine sessions are at that level
now, regardless of where the master ends up being fitted to, but I
want the best. That is what they would have you believe you are
getting, and that is what we who have been here making them millions
all along deserve. NOTHING but the best!

STILL have those goddamned paper liners though, and my
"Dazed and Confused" disc has a"Fast and Furious" inner sheet in it!

I wish these idiots that are so good at making sure the right disc
and outer liner get mated could do the same for the guts. That's what
lack of english literacy gets us.

Some of them do not even have inner sheets, the disease that crept
into Std DVD a while ago.

How fucking hard can it be to put a chapter, etc. sheet into the
damned thing? They should be making the outer from film too, not
paper.

Paper should have gone out with albums! I saw it coming though. Way
back with Laser Disc. They first emerged with full 3mil anti scratch
liners in them. They degraded soon to 0.5 mil CRAP liners that would
not even function correctly, THEN, they finally used album sleeves
with the liners glued inside! No more liners wiping sideways!

It can't be that damned much more to give us something that will
last! I think plastic film would actually be cheaper. Look at potato
chip bags.

Come on, studios! Listen up, and DO IT!

My Std DVD 1st season Mission Impossible is flawless (though
upconverted on my player).

I did not buy Axeon flux or whatever the hell it is called.
That type of animation no, but 3D computer animated stuff sure should.

I am sure we will.

I did not see that.

Yes... even if they leave it at normal resolutions (only actually).
I have several TV shows that are NOT "dozens of DVDs" however.

Greatest American Hero, Kung Fu, Lost, Etc.

They'll dual release in a heartbeat. Pressing costs are not that big
a deal, and there would be no losses. They would eventually sell.
I suspect many studios soon will as well. Especially as BluTurd gets
a worse and worse following.

I think we ought to thumb our noses at Sony, just like they did
Toshiba, the better engineered product/schema.

15 GB "Hand Drive" (not thumb sized) at Fry's: $79.00...

I out a bunch of trailers on mine to impress folks with too. Those
trailers are pretty danged good resolution for that array size.

Most should be some.

DVD will be around for a LONG time, however, pressing numbers WILL
decrease and other format pressing WILL increase in lock step.

The higher price was artificial gouge type crap. The drives
themselves cost them no more to produce. They were just too stupid to
get the firmware right the first time.

Already out.

Only to the already confused.

ALL my HD broadcast reception has always been via simple pair of
rabbit ears. Digital is tha shit!
