I think the generic rule still applies. The faster processor you
get, the longer it will be before you have to buy its replacement.
Adobe publishes the minimum requirements on their
website. You can refer to it directly.

Since we developed and make Core 2 Duo (and other
Intel CPUs) in both of the fabs on either side of my office
building, I may have a certain predjuice. But I think there
are plenty of anti-Intel independent sources that acknowledge
that the Core series has a significant lead on anything
from AMD at the moment.

IMHO, 2GB is sufficient.

This is currently my preferred configutation.
I have multiple copies of this both at home and
at the office...
Small (40-80GB) boot/system/program/cache drive.
Audio/video files don't go here as a general rule.
120-250 GB "scratch" drive that is kept clear of any
long-term content (and kept defragged). This is for
doing things like transcoding, etc. so you can have
a separate source and destination drive.
Any number of drives for the video content. I use
whatever is cheap at my neighborhood dealer. I use
those IDE to USB2 "adapter cables" to just connect
the drive-du-jour to the computer, and then put it
back on the shelf when I'm done with it. This is very
convienent for switching projects which is something
I need here at home, and of course at the office
where half a dozen different people use the edit
systems.

USB2 seems to work great for me and everyone else
at the office. NOT USB 1.x I use those $12 cables
from Geeks.

Unless you're trying to do this on a laptop, I wouldn't even
worry about the drive RPM. Note that as drive capacities
increase, the data throughput increases proprotionally
without any increase in RPM. Not a problem with
modern drives, IMHO. I don't even know what the RPM
of my drives are.
> I plan to use a Canopus ADVC-110 to transfer video to hard drive.
An excelent choice, IMHO.
> Would Premiere Pro require more.
IMHO, not really. It likely takes a few more MB of disk
space to install.
