You know what, whilst I'm sure there must have been a glitch or drop out
or two, I can't actually remember one. However what I can say is how
vital it is to keep the camera tapes transport and heads clean. And that
means a degree of fastidiousness in the field that is routinely ignored
by almost every other operator of these small formats I've come across.
So many times I've listened to or read how someone has had lots of
problems with DV and HDV that is clearly down to carelessness. I don't
even rely on the tape door seal in dirty air locations. I fix camera
tape (the white non destructive cloth backed sticky tape) over all
vulnerable seams and NEVER open the tape compartments except in clean
still air and even then only for the shortest possible time.
