Stuck with basic consumer level Panasonic from the beginning, only
because of the now merely historic tape lubricant issue whereby during
1997 Sony and Panasonic lubricants caused a chemical reaction when mixed
that caused hard sticky globules to ruin ones heads. Also an
understanding of just how different digital recording is to analogue in
as much as fine particulation of the tape surface has no relevance to
the quality of the recording. This left only the issue of tape
reliability and magnetic retentivity and quite frankly even the cheapest
consumer tape was more than adequately specified for the fifty or so
passes rarely demanded of any tape.

The assertions that one should use Sony tapes in Sony cameras or how
important it is use ludicrously expensive 'Master Grade' tapes for
broadcast and professional work are no longer a matter of any doubt for
us. Our experience has proven the contrary to a massive and overwhelming
degree that emphatically prove that the Emperors new cloths are indeed
non existent.
