Just a cautionary note from someone using a MacPro 3.0 Quad Xeon, Parallels,
Bootcamp, FCP Studio HD, and a ton of PC software.....
Parallels can't see or use any of the hard disks physically attached to the
MacPro (I have 4 @ 500GB apiece) and you can only see the virtual hard disk
it formats and installs on your Mac boot volume. It is slow to the point
where I seldom find it to be of practical use. The volume it creates is a
joke for video work.....FAT32, 4GB max, etc.
Bootcamp is a beta work in progress. Perhaps Leopard will do it right, but
as of now, the environment is incomplete, not stable as a production system,
and hardly a good platform for day-to-day video work.
A truly useful and totally stable environment can be had with **2
computers**, a MacPro running Tiger with SMB/Samba networking connected to a
PC with PC software installed. Not only are all tools available to be used
interactively, which isn't even slightly true with either Parallels or
Bootcamp, but speed, stability, shared volumes, etc. work right and work
reliably. Parallels and Bootcamp may provide a small measure of this
functionality but this is all they provide.
