HDMI DVD Players Flawed?

Posted by Hugh on 02/19/07 12:24

Hi

I understand when you connect the HDMI output on a DVD player to your TV,
you have to use the audio passed through the HDMI to the TV as the DD5.1
coax/optical etc on the DVD player in bypassed.

I use a HDMI to DVI input on my Tv and so have no audio except for stereo
from the DVD player, as connecting the HDMI effectively kills the DD5.1 etc
(presumeablely they assume you have to have TV with HDMI enabled sound,
whereas I and I expect a lot of others use a separate suround sound amp for
audio)

This seems like a major drop off design flaw with HDMI?
Does anyone have any practical solutions?

Regards

Hugh
