That is correct, but if you had understood my post, the other criteria for
usenet spam - the repitive posting of the same material over and over
again - doesn't apply. To meet that criteria, a post must reach a BI of
20 or above, where BI is calculated by taking the square root of the
number of groups a post is cross-posted to, multipled by the number of
times the posted over a sliding 30 day window.

So, to be spam, a message would either have to be cross-posted once into
400 different groups, or would have to be multi-posted 20 times within a
30 day window. Note that this means if someone posted the same article
cross-posted to 25 different groups each week, by the 4th week, all his
articles would have a BI of 20, meaning they could be cancelled/deleted
off the news server by the news admin (or more likely, his automated
anti-spam script.)

The only exception to this are articles that are clearly for some sort of
illegal activity - warez, MMF scams, etc. These can be cancelled on sight
regardless of what the BI score is.

This article appeared once, and was cross-posted to 6 or 7 different groups,
giving it a BI way below 20.

You of course realize the difference between multi-posting, and
cross-posting and why the latter is much preferred over the former, right?
