I'll second the recs. I used Pinnacle from v7 and at about 10.5, I essentially
quit. The upgrade from v10.5 to 10.6 actually killed my new workstation. I
still have the DVDs, but have not really considered reloading it. From Studio
to Premiere was a bit of a learning curve, but well worth the effort. OK, I
still miss some of the ease of Studio, when it worked and I also had a ton of
effects, that I wish would transfer to Adobe, but I have not really looked
back. In my case, I got the entire Production Studio, as I was able to upgrade
from my CS2 Premium Suite. I did end up with 2 copies of PS and AI, but I put
those licenses to use in my one-man studio.
I'd urge the OP to look into the Adobe products, get the necessary "Classroom
in a Book," editions, and really learn NLE. If he/she is like me, they'll not
miss anything, after the first two weeks.
Now, I'm still learning After Effects and Audition, but that's just the way
that it is. I can edit and author a complete DVD in a day, where it took me a
week in Studio.
