Yeah, and it's not just HD and SD mixed on the timeline its SD and HD at
_any_ frame rate without transcoding. You don't even have to worry
about interlace field dominance or mixing with progressive footage.
Now, that is outstanding.

The beauty of the AJA IO-HD is that it is effectively a Kona3 card with
on board ProRes422 codec which can be moved from Mac to Mac. So the
small outfit doesn't have to buy a Kona3 for each of its Mac Pros it can
just buy one IO-HD. Bargain.

Just a half decent graphics card. Motion gains little with CPU power.
Love the Motion templates inside FCP which means lower third graphics
generation just got much more streamlined.

The conform tool looks quite an awesome feature and seems to suggest
media management issues which have dogged previous versions of FCP have
been fixed. This tool couldn't work without rock solid media management.

For more info on ProRes 422

This article also shows that FCP makes use of all 8 cores when using
ProRes422. I wonder if this extends to other codecs?

I understand they are pushing Compressor 3 as _the_ way to render a
final project and it is multi threaded and optimised for intel.

Nothing of any consequence from Avid... I don't think they've
understood where the market is going. The hegemony has been broken but
they still operate like nothing has changed...
