I'm not sure that you did finalise the disk if all you did was to
press 'stop'. From using my own DMR-E50, this just writes the
recording to the disk. In order to use it on another machine, the disk
needs to be finalised which converts the format from DVD-R to DVD-
Video (sorry if I've got the details wrong!).
You finalise the disk from one of the menus and I think the option is
'Disk Information'. It then becomes read-only.
