Firewire is not USB. While some of the connectors used for firewire
look similar to USB connectors, they are not the same.
The spec for speed of USB looks similar, but USB is much
more dependant on the computer's processor. If the processor
wanders off to do something else while you are doing a transfer
via the USB port, you may lose some of your data.
Firewire (IEEE 1394) is much more robust. All of the DV cameras
use IEEE 1394 for transfer to and from the computer. Most computers
come with built-in IEEE 1394 ports these days.
