The thread started with a complaint about Avid, Apple and Adobe not
supporting AVCHD, and people pointed out that they're not likely to
care too much about a non-professional format.
How many people buying AVCHD cameras for family vacations are going to
buy Avid Xpress Pro or Final Cut Pro to edit their videos? I edit my
holiday videos on Xpress Pro, but that's only because I already have
it... if that was all I was editing, I certainly wouldn't spend that
much money on that software even if it did support AVCHD.
