Nothing, absolutely Nothing works as well as a closely placed, hidden
microphone
for high quality audio. The use of laser mics, and parabolic mics for
surveillance
is a far cry from the beautiful quality a well placed simple microphone can
offer.
As you see, the farther you move from the source, the trickier it becomes to
gather useful audio. (and avoid background clutter and distortion)
