I wouldn't mind if they 'digitally erased' anime as a genre; the closest
I can get to it is the live action movie tetsuo: iron man from back in
the eighties, I think, but that's not really anime.
As for smoking in cartoons, they could insert a statement saying it's
strictly for "medicinal purposes", akin to the statement in an asian
country (I forget the name of) before episodes of Laverne and Shirley
stating that what was about to be depicted are escapees from an insane
asylum.
