The pause is caused by the players switching from one layer to another
on a dual layer DVD. Early DVD players by big name companies would pause
for a second or more. Current players are far faster and they use a read
ahead cache to make the layer change as seamless as possible.
Just equate it to a sloppy reel change in an old theatre.
