Sorry but you're talking bollocks.
Uncompressed 24-bit PCM is head over shoulders above compressed Dolby
Digital.
You could go between 24/48 PCM on POTC and Dolby Digital all day, with
all levels set to be the same SPL, and you'd pick the PCM track out
EVERY TIME. It's that much of a difference. It doesn't matter how good
the compressionist is, you can't lose that much data (448 Kbps vs 6900
Kbps) and not notice it. All the analysis in the world means fuck all
when you sit down and use your own two ears....or anyone elses.
The picture quality between DVD and HD DVD/Blu-ray 1080p is also a
huge difference over DVD, upscaled or not.
