I'm with you on 720p vs 1080i, with my 61" JVC HD-iLA, sitting at 10', I
can't tell the difference.
But one big reason to buy BD or HDDVD is the sounds! With most BDs
having at minimum a 5.1 LPCM lossless track, or another lossy new codec;
and HDDVD having TrueHD available, or again some other lossy codec; the
sounds are much better than most SDs.
While some report that they can't watch SD disks any more, I don't find
that to be the case at all. Both my S300 (BD) and HDA2 (HDDVD) players
upconvert beautifully.
