Bullshit. I have the top of the line HD DVD player, and just as good
of a BR player.

Standalone is better.

Market, shmarket. The masses can jump on that crap. The circuits
inside mine are far superior, and the mult-format players will not target
the high end, they will target Joe Shmoe Doesn't Know. And since Joe
Shmoe doesn't know, he won't notice the poorer performance set.

Apparently, you are one such shmoe.

Both players will operate for quite some time. My $2200 LD player
lasted 18 years.

There is no gamble, dipshit. Markets today are not like those that
were around in the early seventies, when consumer electronics was just
getting started, and folks' dollars were doled out in a much more frugal
manner.

You can bet dollars to doughnuts that both formats will endure for
years to come. Just so you know, both VHS and beta survived.

I buy titles to watch. The players are an asset. The titles, a
library.

My uncle bought thousands of albums back in the 40s, and 50s, and 60s,
and he made a tape the first time he played each one just once, then they
went on a shelf.

When he died, the Cincinnati Historical Society got the entire lot.
Both the pristine vinyl pressings, as well as the tape archives.

In time, you might get a clue. They are both going to be around a long
time, and any new entrants will be what barely eek by, even if they are
"higher res" or "better" in other ways. We simply do not need anything
else yet. The current resolution is fine for nearly ALL intents and
purposes.

Oh yeah... used titles for the PS3 are a mere $6 less than new. If I
am going to pay that much, I'll bump to the new title price and just get
my own, new, pristine copy.
