I have had a Sony RDR-HX900 for almost three years now, and because I
had to order a new remote (I'm not saying how I broke the old one), I
decided to check the market for updated recorders of this type.
So I find out that there are no standalone DVR's on the US market
anymore. The UK and Australia have new models from Panasonic and
other companies, but none are for sale on this side of the ponds.
What's the story? Why have these companies dropped out of this market
in the US?
There seems to be no choice here but to go with TiVo, which has a
monthly fee (for what, I don't know, since the device you have to
purchase does all the work).
