Sounds like a dodgy phone call to me , how would they know they were
suspicious? Have the payments actually been taken? as you said attempted
transactions, why would they be stopped unless you notified them?

I would phone the credit card company to confirm this first.

Also did you update your details at Play via an email(dodgy) request rather
than at the site?
