I would have contacted the CC company via a different number, rather
than the Freephone one given. It's possible that all you've done is to
'phone a hoaxer to re-confirm your details.

I've been dealing with Play for years and have never suffered any CC
loss attributable to them, or heard of any CCs being compromised via the
company (that's not to say that it hasn't happened though). I did stop a
CC after the DVDPacific site got hacked a few years back, but I luckily
avoided any problems.

For piece of mind, I would contact your CC company again using a
different number to re-confirm things.
