Generally, the 'finalize' option is to write some index material to allow
non-recorder type dvd players to read the files.
I have found that the computer will read un finalized dvd-rw's just fine
My dvd recorder will accept new blank dvd-rw's, but will write some index
material before it will record. I have to allow a few minutes before the
show starts for the machine to prepare the dvd. It will properly erase and
re-use dvd's it has recorded, or ones recorded on the computer.
For whatever reasons, some dvd recorders, like mine, will only record to
dvd+rw, yet others, like my daughters, will record on both.
Look around in the menu functions, there should be erase options there.
