One of the specs that I can't find for this recorder is dynamic range.

True. I often filter speech with low pass filters in the 5-10 KHz range.
However I know what the filter I use does - it is 3 dB down at the
frequency it is set for, and it has a 12 dB/octave slope. I don't know what
the comparable information is for the WS-311M.

Besides the recording quality differences which are great, a very strong
advantage of the Microtrak is that it is compatible with a variety of
external microphones, both professional and semi-pro.
