It's not a design flaw. It's the current trend in all modern camera's The
fact that you could rotate through all the settings before, was a luxury,
as most other camera's had 3 presets, and that was it. For people used to
thse presets, this is an enormous improvement, as you can set the gain to
your own liking.
Yes, this kind of switch assumes you will have control over your lighting.
Changing the exposure, will make the shadows much darker, so cutting all of
this together, will be a challenge ;-) Have you thought of using external
ND-filters to control the exposure? Then your iris and shutterspeed will
stay the same.
