James C. Allison:
Alright, I'm determined to get this right.
I did get a response from "Joe" in the Microsoft discussion group, telling
me to do something. But when I tried to do what he said, Win2K didn't give
me the response that he said it would. It just goes ahead and installs the
1394 devices in "Imaging devices" in "Device Manager".
BUT there is some news on this front. I did a search for the <Dvcam.inf>
driver that Matrox says will put the 1394 devices in "Sound, video, game
controllers" in "Device Manager", and found it in the "System Files" of
Win2K.
So I copied Dvcam.inf to a 1.44 diskette, and then uninstalled the 1394
devices from "Imaging devices", and then went through the re-installation
process with the "Add Hardware Wizard". And when it prompted me for a
driver, I told it to look in Drive A: It did. BUT then it displayed a
window saying that it had already found a suitable driver, and went ahead
and put the 1394 devices back into "Imaging devices".
So I'm just going to put all this on hold for the time being, while going
ahead with the next step in the process, which is doing some serious
recording of TheCrystalume, and then capturing that to Premier, and then
seeing if I can burn it to DVD. That ought to be a fun process, fraught with
its own problems and ideosyncrasies.
So all in all, it has been a really interesting week, full of all the stuff
that makes dealing with computers so fascinating.
Hope you all are well, and hanging in there.
Regards,
Allison
