Yes, that is an oversimplification...Remember that mpeg2 on DVD uses a
variable bitrate process, so the more movement there is, the more bits it
takes to accurately reproduce it....The biggest hog for homemade video
projects many times is the audio...if its in PCM format, you can save tons
of space by using one of the acceptable compressed formats....Weren't you
given links to the DVD FAQ earlier that talks about the acceptable video
resolutions and audio formats?
