Yes, for the DVD player. For the VCR side, it might not supply audio
via the coax digital out and then you would have to hook up the L/R
analog audio outs to the receiver to listen to tapes.

It will output 44.1 kHz pcm for audio CDs and whatever audio stream
you choose in the DVD disc menu, depending on what audio streams are
on the disc. Many movie discs have at least DD5.1 tracks.

You could check the player setup menu to be sure it is set correctly
for your display, but only if the picture doesn't display properly.
Many players default video settings are for a 4x3 aspect ratio TV.
You may have to tweak the audio settings in this menu if your receiver
doesn't get access to all the audio streams on a disc. But don't play
with the audio setup unless you have that problem.
