Yeah, dumb mistake on my part. This is very helpful.

I enquired, but they wanted the tapes delivered to their facility. I
suppose I assumed this was common - could I find someone in the DC
area to go in for me?

What worries me about this option is that it will give me very little
control / ability to clean up the signal. Either way, I'm going to
try to contact the person in charge of media services there shortly
(long story why I haven't already) and see what sort of equipment is
needed. Thanks to all who answered here so far, I'll probably have
more tomorrow.
