You cannot judge tape quality on a BVV-5, it is an aquisition device
and has NO form of dropout compensation whatsoever.
The black lines you see are is (are) dropout, you will see that on a
brand new machine with the cleanest tape you can find. You need a
proper playback machine to judge record quality.
